Sex Education Game (XEGA): 3D Modeled Game Innovation to Pursue Elementary School Student’s Awareness About Sex Education

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in 2016 states that 80% of eighteen year old believe children are in danger of being sexualy abused. The phenomenon of sexual abused against children is becoming more frequent and global in almost every country. In Indonesia sexual abused case is increase every year where children are also the victims. sexual abused of children can occur because of the child's lack of understanding of sex education. Based on these problems, the researcher wants to propose the "Sex Education Game (XEGA)" as a 3D-Modeled Game Innovation to Pursue Elementary School Students' Awareness about Sex Education. XEGA is interactive 3D game powered by Kodu Game Lab application that designed in futuristic and fun city setting so the elementary school children can get more interesting learning experience. It is also interactive in offers real human visualization and completed with dubbing as the explanation. In addition, there are challenges such as eliminating bad humans and a scoring system to reduce the boringness. The research methodology of XEGA includes experimental and game testing process. The data obtained in XEGA experiment shows that the understanding of the participants in the pre-test questions with an average of 29 out of 100 predefined scores. The student's mean increase between pre-test and post-test is 60 scores. Besides, it was also found that the participant's post-test showed a score of 89 out of 100. Hence, XEGA can effectively improved elementary school students' understanding of sex education designed by the research team.

Sex education game or XEGA is a game that aimed for primary student sex education. XEGA is featured by various Non-Player Character (NPC) and world terrains that the player could interact with, in order to give the best experience for primary student in receiving information about sex education. XEGA consists of 3 stages with each stage uniqueness. Each stage is designed as similar as possible to the real-life situation, thus will make XEGA is very helpful as a media for primary student sex education. In XEGA, the player started as Kartini for female or Kartono for male. XEGA begins with the player entering Majapahit city. Players will be directed to NPC, who will inform the player what they should do. In the first stage, the player must complete 4 tasks, and then they must identify the bodies that cannot be touched by other people. The body parts are chest, butt, mouth, and genitals. In the second stage, players will learn to fight against sexual abuse in-crowd. Players must say, 'No' or 'Go Away' to the sexual abuser by pressing the X button. In the last stage, the atmosphere will be dark and tense. When the player enters the maze that represents night time in a city alley, the player will be chased by sexual abusers who hide behind the wall. This stage teaches children to seek refuge in crowded places to seek help when being chased by sexual abusers. When a player successfully escapes, it means that they have finished the game. The XEGA design stage begins with a basic 2D design by the researcher, then XEGA is created using a "basic logic" algorithm through the Microsoft Kodu Game Lab to create a three-dimensional visualization process of introducing and educating sex education to children to make it more interesting. After the game is constructed in a 3D model, programming is the next stage to give commands to characters and objects to operate following the researcher's orders. Programming of items at the Microsoft Kodu Game Lab is done with the logic coding language "When" and "Do." Based on the SUS research that was conducted, XEGA games managed to get an average score up to 81.37 % that classify XEGA into an A-grade usability game. This value shows that XEGA games is acceptable enough to be played along by the participant that is elementary school student. The Understanding test are consisting of pre-test that filled before playing the XEGA games, and post-test that filled after playing the XEGA games. The test result shows that XEGA game could improve the average of students' sex education knowledge from 29 point on the pre-test up to 89 point on the post-test that done after playing the XEGA game. This indicates that XEGA can effectively and significantly improving the understanding level of elementary school students about sex education. XEGA has been designed to be an alternative sex education for children in an interactive and attractive manner with a 3D game model design. This research was conducted using the XEGA design, manufacture and programming method. Student Understanding in the form of pre-test and post-test was carried out in this research, the research result is student average understanding increased 60 points of score. While the System Usability Scale (SUS) score result is 81.67 that is categorized as acceptable. Besides, an interview was conducted to get participants experience playing the XEGA game. Hence, this innovation game can increase student understanding about sex education and also create a safer and better world for everyone to live on.
